The Iowa Records Committee annually reviews the status of species occurrence in the state by looking at the empirical evidence for the past ten years of information published in Iowa Bird Life and categorizes them as regular (recorded in 7-10 of the last 10 years), casual (recorded in 3-8 of the last 10 years), or accidental (recorded in 0-3 of the last 10 years). In a few instances the committee may take significant recent data or accepted knowledge to classify differently than what a simple count may indicate, especially since a year of published information runs nearly a full calendar year behind. This table reviews the published occurrence data.
